Description

Hybrid Yew (Taxus media ‘Hillii’)

Quality: 20-25 with root ball

‘Hillii’ is a male hybrid variety of American and European yew (Taxus media). Vigorous, upright, and dense – it develops a natural columnar shape over time and is ideal as a specimen plant or for hedges.

Climatic properties & site conditions:
Extremely hardy (to -30 °C), tolerates shade and partial shade, and copes just as well with the cool, damp locations of the Black Forest as with the more continental conditions of Bavaria. More drought-tolerant than many other conifers.

Advantages: Robust, deep shade tolerant, no toxic berries as it is male, long-lived, adaptable to various soils, good CO₂ sink.

Disadvantages: All parts of the yew (except the aril) are toxic – use caution with pets and children. Slow growth means a higher initial investment.
