Description

Turkish Hazel (Corylus colurna)

Quality: 150-180 with root ball

The Turkish Hazel is one of the most valuable urban trees of today. With its pyramidal crown, attractive bark pattern, and extreme robustness, it is considered the street tree of the future – including in Southern Germany.

Climatic properties & site conditions:
Originally from the Near East and Southeastern Europe, it is perfectly adapted to drought and heat – qualities that are becoming crucial in climate change. Frost and urban gas tolerant, it copes well with compacted and lime-poor soils.

Advantages: Extreme heat stress is hardly an issue, excellent as an avenue tree, attractive appearance, edible nuts, good for insects (catkins in winter/spring), few pests.

Disadvantages: Comparatively slow growth in youth, rather unsuitable for small private gardens due to its eventual size.
