Description

Hybrid Walnut NG23 (Juglans hybrid NG23)

Quality: 40-60-80

The hybrid walnut NG23 is a high-performance cross between Juglans regia (English walnut) and Juglans nigra (black walnut). It combines rapid growth and wood quality with increased resistance – ideal for forward-looking cultivation.

Climatic properties & site conditions:
Excellently suited for the warming climate in the Rhine Plain, the Neckar region, and Lower Franconia. Tolerates heat periods significantly better than pure regia varieties. Deep-rooted with high drought tolerance.

Advantages: Faster growing than the native walnut, valuable precious wood, more climate-resistant, good nut yields, suitable as an avenue tree, economically interesting.

Disadvantages: Juglans-typical juglone secretion from the roots inhibits neighboring plants. Late budding protects against late frost, but large-scale avenue plantings require sufficient distance from other crops.
